COACHING FOR MANAGERS

Managers are most effective when they know how to use their team’s collective strengths. But before looking at the team, managers first need to understand their own strengths, capabilities and leadership styles.  In this context managers will then be able to understand the team’s individual and collective strengths; and how these can be harnessed to contribute towards a successful team.

In my coaching for managers, I offer the following:

  • coaching conversation with managers – helping managers to appreciate their own strengths and how they influence their management style.  Then to help them to understand how their dominant talents influence their ability to execute and reach their performance objective. I will help them to become more purposeful in reaching positive outcomes within areas such as talent identification, employee development and engagement and performance management.

  • feedback on individual strengths of the team members – the purpose is to build with the manager an understanding of each team member's individual talents: what drives each person, how they naturally think, feel and behave and how they build relationships. This includes helping the manager to understand how purposefully utilise individuals and how to overcome challenges.

  • feedback on collective strengths of the team – I use a structured approach to help the manager examine and explore the strengths of the team.   This is covered across four key domains: executing, influencing, relationship building and strategic thinking. I will help the manager to develop a strategy for using the strengths of the team and addressing gaps and vulnerabilities so that it is better equipped to accomplish its tasks.
